Nuclearelectrica posted a net profit of RON 1.18 billion in the first half of 2026, up 36.6 percent compared with the same period of 2025, according to a report submitted to the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
Operating profit (EBITDA) rose by 33.7 percent, or RON 394.6 million, year-on-year, supported mainly by higher electricity sales revenues, which increased by 2.7 percent (RON 71.3 million), and by the elimination of contributions to the Energy Transition Fund following the expiry of Government Emergency Ordinance No. 6/2025 after June 30, 2025.
These positive factors were partly offset by a 15.3 percent increase in operating expenses, excluding depreciation and amortization, equivalent to approximately RON 164 million compared with the first half of 2025.
Operating revenues increased by 2.0 percent to RON 2.79 billion, driven primarily by a 12.7 percent rise in the average weighed electricity selling price between January 1 and June 30, 2026, despite an 11.7 percent decline in the total volume of electricity sold.
The two operational units at the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant generated 4.53 million MWh of gross electricity in the first half of 2026. Internal technological consumption amounted to 375,000 MWh, while both units were shut down between May 10 and May 30, during which the plant sourced 13,700 MWh from Romania’s national power grid for internal services.
As a result, net electricity delivered to Romania’s National Energy System totalled 4.15 million MWh in the first half of 2026, down 11.7 percent from 4.71 million MWh in the same period of 2025. In the second quarter alone, electricity delivered fell by 23.4 percent year-on-year to 1.52 million MWh, reflecting the impact of the planned shutdown period.
