DP World Constanța has launched the project “Electrification of the DP World Terminal – Constanța, Romania,” a strategic investment aimed at accelerating the transition to low-emission port operations and supporting the decarbonisation of maritime transport in the Port of Constanța, the largest port on the Black Sea and a key hub in the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
The project is co-financed by the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), under the CEF-T-2024-AFIFCOEN call for proposals, managed by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA).
The project is scheduled for completion by 31 August 2028, with a total investment of 53.8 million euros.
The project’s financing package comprises a non-repayable EU grant of up to 19.7 million euros, awarded through CINEA, a loan of up to 25 million euros provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and an own contribution from the project beneficiary, Constanța South Container Terminal SRL.
The investment focuses on developing the electrical infrastructure required to gradually replace fossil-fuel-powered equipment with electric alternatives, as well as implementing an Onshore Power Supply (OPS) system to enable vessels to connect to shore-side electricity while in port.
