The growth of e-commerce and the digitalisation of more and more aspects of everyday life are increasing the need for digital solutions that simplify consumer experiences at every stage, from purchase to delivery. Against this backdrop, Cargus, one of Romania’s largest courier companies, has surpassed 3.6 million downloads of its mobile app, Cargus Mobile, launched in November 2021. At the same time, the number of unique monthly active users of the app has increased by an average of 34% per month this year compared with the 2025 monthly average.
The Cargus Mobile app is designed both for people who send parcels occasionally and for recipients who want to track their delivery status in real time. In addition, Cargus Mobile allows users to redirect parcels to any of the more than 2,100 Cargus SHIP & GO points, pay for transport directly in the app or pay cash on delivery when collecting a parcel, as well as initiate returns quickly and easily for products ordered online.
The development of Cargus Mobile is part of the company’s long-term strategy to simplify the delivery experience and give customers greater autonomy, visibility and control when interacting with courier services. In a market supported by the growth of e-commerce and consumers’ increasing expectations for self-service options, predictability and fast access to information, the Cargus mobile app is becoming a key digital point of interaction between the company and its customers.
”The increase in downloads and active users shows that the Cargus Mobile app has become one of the main digital channels through which customers interact with our services. People want to know quickly where their parcel is, to be able to pay easily, to send parcels without complicated steps and to have access to flexible delivery and shipping options. Our goal is to provide them with a stable, intuitive and easy-to-use app, developed largely by our internal team and constantly adapted to users’ needs. We will continue to develop Cargus Mobile so that it simplifies as many stages as possible in the delivery and shipping experience”, said Felix Crăciunescu, Chief IT Officer at Cargus.
Most users use Cargus Mobile to track delivery status and quickly access relevant information about their orders. Although parcel tracking remains the app’s most widely used feature, Cargus Mobile is also becoming increasingly relevant for occasional senders, most of whom are private individuals. Currently, 21% of occasional senders use the app to send parcels, choosing this simple, accessible and easy-to-use digital solution.
For occasional senders, the app complements the other available channels, such as the web platform, the call centre and Cargus’s own SHIP & GO locations. Cargus Mobile is available on Google Play, the App Store and Huawei AppGallery, while authentication is simple and fast, allowing users to log in either with their email address or through their Google and Apple accounts.
The adoption of mobile solutions is also visible in payment behaviour. Among users who make payments in Cargus Mobile, 33% use Apple Pay or Google Pay instead of the traditional card payment method, compared with an average of approximately 22% in 2025 and 16% in November 2024. This indicates an increase of around 50% compared with last year and a doubling compared with the end of 2024. At the same time, among users who pay through the app, around 20% pay for shipments they initiate themselves, while approximately 80% use the app to pay cash on delivery, showing that the app supports the needs of both senders and recipients.
Consumer behaviour in the use of Cargus Mobile also confirms the interest in out-of-home delivery solutions. Around 35% of app users access the SHIP & GO section, where they can find details about suitable locations for collecting or sending parcels. The highest app usage is recorded in Bucharest, followed by Timișoara, Cluj-Napoca, Ploiești, Brașov and Iași, reflecting the growing role of digital solutions in cities with high e-commerce volumes and increasing demand for fast and flexible delivery. Cargus Mobile has also been recognised at industry level, being named ”Best App of a Courier Company” at the Romanian Courier & Postal Services Business Awards 2021.
About Cargus
With more than 35 years of experience, Cargus is the first courier company to have operated on the Romanian market. Today, the company has over 2,600 employees and collaborators, offering a wide range of courier services: home delivery and out-of-home services through its national SHIP & GO network, which enables customers to collect or send parcels from more than 2,100 locations across the country, including partner points and lockers. Cargus operates five national sorting centres, two gateway warehouses and 36 depots across Romania. In addition, Cargus operates a cross-border hub in Poland for international courier services.
In 2021, Cargus acquired QeOPS, one of Romania’s leading providers of e-fulfilment services and customised logistics solutions, thereby complementing the services offered to customers. Since the beginning of 2019, Cargus has been part of the Mid Europa Partners investment fund. Last year, Mid Europa signed an agreement to sell Cargus to Sameday, one of the leading players in the courier market. Following the approval received from the Competition Council in April, the transaction is currently progressing through the remaining formal steps.
