RoPower Nuclear becomes Romania’s sole member of the American Nuclear Society

    Published on

RoPower Nuclear, the company developing the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) project at Doicești, has become the first and only institution from Romania to join the American Nuclear Society (ANS), an organization that has been promoting innovation, science, and nuclear technologies for 72 years.

ANS represents a major center of expertise, bringing together nuclear engineers, researchers, scientists, and other highly qualified professionals from related fields, including healthcare.

“We are pleased to welcome RoPower as a member of the American Nuclear Society. By joining a global community of more than 12,000 nuclear professionals and 120 partner organizations, RoPower will contribute to expanding the nuclear workforce and to deepening public understanding and appreciation of nuclear science and technology,” said Craig Piercy, CEO and Executive Director of the American Nuclear Society.

“The RoPower Nuclear team is now part of a highly respected group within the nuclear sector. It is an honor for us to be the first and only organization from Romania to join the American Nuclear Society, a robust community of professionals synonymous with the development and promotion of nuclear technologies for over 70 years. Our membership is rooted in shared values, while also providing us with access to this center of expertise and international support for nuclear energy in general and SMR technology in particular,” said Dan Șerbănescu, Technical and Operations Director of RoPower Nuclear.

The American Nuclear Society includes as members leading nuclear industry companies, such as NuScale Power—the developer of the technology used in the Doicești SMR project—as well as European leaders in nuclear energy, including Framatome. RoPower Nuclear, the project company tasked with developing Europe’s first SMR project in Doicești, is currently the only Romanian institution that is a member of the American Nuclear Society. Dan Șerbănescu, Technical and Operations Director of RoPower Nuclear, has also been affiliated since 2010 with the society’s international group of experts supporting the development of nuclear energy.
