Distribuție Energie Electrică Romania (DEER) has completed all emergency repair works and fully restored electricity supply in the Apuseni Mountains area following the severe weather conditions recorded on January 2, 2026.
Due to heavy snowfall and blizzard conditions, under yellow and orange weather warnings, electricity distribution networks in Alba County — especially in the Apuseni Mountains region — were significantly affected, with multiple faults reported across the power grid.
To manage the situation, DEER mobilized a large intervention force consisting of over 100 operational teams and support staff from 16 regional branches, totaling approximately 500 people. The intervention works were carried out continuously for six days across an area of approximately 2,500 square kilometers, mainly in hard-to-reach areas.
Field operations were extremely difficult due to snow-covered roads, large amounts of snow, vast forested areas, fallen trees on power lines, and the presence of wild animals, all of which hindered access and repair efforts.
As a result of this sustained effort, power supply was restored to over 43,000 customers, with full electricity service reinstated on the evening of January 8.
In areas where immediate reconnection was not possible, DEER ensured continuity of supply by installing power generators. A total of 17 generators were provided by DEER, along with an additional 7 generators supplied by the Alba County Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, following effective interinstitutional cooperation.
To coordinate operations, DEER’s management, led by CEO Mihaela Rodica Suciu, was permanently stationed in Câmpeni, where a crisis cell was established to oversee field teams, implement operational measures, and ensure safe resolution of the situation.
“Over the past six days, around 500 colleagues — engineers, electricians, auxiliary staff, and contractors — have been working in extremely difficult mountain conditions for one single goal: to restore light and safety to people’s homes. I personally coordinated this mobilization together with the management team because I know how vital electricity is for every family, especially in isolated communities.
I sincerely thank our colleagues from the 16 branches for their effort, courage, and professionalism. My respect also goes to the people in the affected areas for their patience and understanding,” said Mihaela Rodica Suciu, CEO of Distribuție Energie Electrică Romania.
