The National Power Transmission Company Transelectrica inaugurated today, in Sibiu, the Research and Development Center for Live Working Technologies (LST) and Rapid Intervention in the National Power System (SEN), the final component of a major investment launched in 2017 and carried out in two stages.
The second stage completes the development of the “Stelian Alexandru Gal” Center of Excellence in Sibiu, which includes both the Live Working Training Ground, completed in 2021, and the new infrastructure dedicated to research, testing, and training. It is the only facility of its kind in the country and has become a training hub for specialists from across the National Power System.
Work on this stage began in 2020, had a value of 6.3 million lei, and was carried out by the consortium Total NSA AG Construct and Pro Hart Group.
The investment aims to soon become a benchmark in the field for enhancing the professional performance and skills of specialists in the energy sector. The new facility provides the necessary conditions for practical training in a controlled, de-energized environment, where real operating situations can be simulated.
The infrastructure was designed for regular training of Transelectrica’s technical staff and for instructing other specialists from Romania or abroad. The design and use of these facilities aim to improve operational safety, extend equipment lifespan, and reduce downtime—essential objectives for the national electricity transmission network and key components of the Company’s asset modernization and development strategy. At the same time, one of the main objectives of the Center—beyond professional training—is the provision of specialized consultancy in the field of Live Working (LST).
The first stage of the project, completed in 2021, focused on the LST Training Ground, a 5.7-million-lei investment financed from own funds, which offers facilities for practicing work in substations and on overhead lines. Through the continuation and completion of this initiative, the newly inaugurated center strengthens its position as a core competence hub in the LST field.
By completing the Research and Development Center for Live Working Technologies and Rapid Intervention in SEN, Transelectrica reinforces the professional training structure within the National Power System and supports the development of essential competencies for the safe operation of the national energy infrastructure.
