Irina, you’ve held leadership roles across several regions and industries. When you look back, what connects the different chapters of your career?

Irina: Growth through change. Each step — whether leading a shared services organization, driving transformation, or working in a global matrix — taught me something new about people and performance. What has remained constant is the understanding that results come from trust and clarity. When people see the purpose behind the work and feel part of it, they deliver beyond expectation.

You spent several years in Singapore — a global hub for innovation and transformation. What impact did that have on you as a leader?

Irina: It expanded my perspective. Singapore taught me that leadership is not just about presence, but about purpose. It’s a place where cultures blend, where excellence is expected, and where learning never stops. Working with diverse leaders reminded me how important adaptability and humility are — knowing when to lead, when to listen, and how to connect across differences. It grounded me in a more global way of thinking while reinforcing timeless values: integrity, clarity, and respect.

You’ve led through change and uncertainty. What helps you keep teams aligned and focused during transition?

Irina: Communication and consistency. People handle change best when they have context. Even difficult news can be managed if you’re honest, transparent, and steady. I’ve always made sure people understand both the direction and the purpose. When that clarity exists, motivation follows — and results come faster.

You often speak about empathy and accountability as two sides of leadership. How do you balance them?

Irina: I see them as complementary. Empathy is about understanding the person; accountability is about ownership, transparency, and integrity in achieving goals together. You need both. Kindness without accountability leads to confusion; accountability without empathy leads to disengagement and burnout. Leadership is about combining the two — setting high standards while supporting people as they reach them.

You’ve worked across borders and seen many leadership styles. What do you think defines strong leadership today?

Irina: The ability to stay human while delivering results. The world is faster, more digital, and more demanding than ever. But technology doesn’t replace trust. The strongest leaders I’ve met — whether in Asia or Europe — were those who made people feel safe enough to innovate and confident enough to act. Leadership today is about clarity, courage, and care.

What are you most proud of when you look at your career so far?

Irina: Of the people who grew along the way. I’ve seen former team members become exceptional professionals and leaders. I’m proud of the cultures we built — performance-driven, yet fair and supportive. And I’m proud that, through all the challenges, I’ve stayed true to my values. Success means little if it costs your integrity.

You’ve returned to Romania after years abroad. How does this new chapter feel?

Irina: It feels meaningful. I’ve come back with broader perspectives, greater cultural awareness, and valuable global experience. Romania has extraordinary potential — strong talent, creativity, and agility. I believe we can compete globally if we combine competence with confidence. My experiences abroad help me contribute to that growth — building strong foundations, inspiring people to take pride in what they create, and helping Romania compete more effectively on the global stage.

Finally, how do you define leadership — after all these years and experiences?

Irina: Leadership is about helping others succeed, especially in uncertain times. It’s about staying calm in change, being fair in conflict, and being brave in decision. Real leaders leave behind not just results, but stronger people and better organizations.

Steady in tone, clear in conviction, and grounded in purpose — Irina Ciucioi-Badea represents a generation of leaders proving that success and integrity, empathy and results, can move together.
