“The fact that we have been present in the Romanian renewable energy market for more than 15 years has allowed us to design an energy mix based on what we created more than a decade ago, and to adapt it to today’s needs. By exploiting energy produced from renewable sources, we have learned a great deal and understood what we need,” said Elena Popescu, CEO of Elektra Renewable Support, during the Green Energy Conference organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.
Key statements:
- “I don’t believe there is a single technology that will dominate the next 5–10 years. We are talking about a mix of technologies that will impact the energy sector. We must think holistically and all take part in this evolution.”
- “We cannot focus only on the problems we face today. We must act so that in 5 or 10 years we can adapt to the realities of the market and to the technologies available at that time.”
- “We must use all the market mechanisms we have at our disposal to maximize revenues, to employ every tool to secure those revenues, and to learn from the experience of other companies in this energy game—this way, we can secure another 10–15 years of activity.”
Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Cernavodă, Romania, Elektra Renewable Support provides integrated services for renewable energy projects, including engineering consultancy, technical operations, maintenance, and SCADA dispatching for both photovoltaic and wind power plants.
The company currently operates more than 600 MW of renewable projects and is developing over 1 GW of new capacity nationwide, including hybrid solutions that combine solar and wind production with energy storage. Beyond traditional renewable operations, Elektra Renewable Support is actively investing in hydrogen integration. At Cernavodă, the company is preparing a complete hydrogen hub—production, storage, and refueling infrastructure—designed to support the transport fleets of the future.
