10 electricians from Delgaz Grid, the electricity and natural gas distribution company of the E.ON group in Romania, climbed the podium in the 43rd edition of the Electrician’s Trophy professional competition, organized in Craiova between July 6 and 11.
After three days of theoretical and practical tests, Delgaz Grid electricians obtained three second and third places and four mentions for their performances in the individual tests in the specializations: Fault detection of underground medium and low voltage networks, Installation and repair of medium and low voltage installations, Installation and repair of primary equipment 110 kV and medium voltage in stations, Operation of transformer stations, PRAM (protections and automation) and Operation of medium and low voltage networks.
First place in teams was awarded to Delgaz Grid electricians in maintenance of medium and low voltage installations.
“It is difficult to play away from home on the Bănie pitch, but the preparation, experience, tenacity and professionalism of my colleagues have paid off. We are proud of the results obtained, results behind which there is a lot of work. I appreciate all the competitors and congratulate those who took the stage, they are all our champions!”, declares Cristian Ifrim, Deputy General Manager of Delgaz Grid.
This year’s competition was organized in Craiova by Distribuție Energie Oltenia and Electrica. Over 100 electricians from the main electricity distribution operators in Romania, as well as from energy service providers, competed, and the judging was provided by the best specialists in the country.
The Electrician’s Trophy is a professional competition with tradition and is held around July 20, when Saint Elijah, the patron and protector of those working in the energy sector, is celebrated.
For the second year, the Electrician’s Trophy also included the Distribution Energy Dispatcher section, a section introduced by Delgaz Grid in the competition program since 2021.
The Junior Electrician’s Trophy, in which students from energy-related educational institutions in the areas of activity of the four major distribution operators competed, reached its 3rd edition, the national phase.
At the Delgaz Grid level, the junior section was introduced since 2016, with students from energy-related high schools in Moldova participating.
Thus, generations of new electricians are growing and forming before our eyes, who will take over the baton from the seniors.
The “Electrician’s Trophy” is a traditional event, probably the longest-running and most extensive professional competition in Romania. The 48-year history of the competition begins in 1977 and is closely linked to Moldova and the municipality of Iași, where the first edition took place.
