Kaufland maintains its position in the top of the largest companies in Romania, by turnover, and continues to be one of the most important private employers, according to the company’s socio-economic impact study for the financial year 2024, carried out with the support of KPMG.

The company recorded a turnover of 3.97 billion euros between March 2024 and February 2025. Kaufland’s contribution to the Romanian economy amounted to 2.8 billion euros (Gross Added Value), equivalent to approximately 0.8% of the national GDP.

Currently, Kaufland is one of the largest private employers in Romania, with 18,000 employees in the network that has reached 192 stores, two logistics centers and two administrative headquarters. Through expansion plans, the company aims to reach 250 hypermarkets in Romania and the Republic of Moldova by 2030.

Last year, Kaufland invested 157 million euros in Romania in terms of CAPEX, for the acquisition or modernization of fixed assets in Romania and had a contribution to the state budget of 321 million euros, through taxes and duties paid.

“In times when challenges are at every turn, people are looking for more than just good prices – they are looking for benchmarks. Responsible companies make sustained efforts not only to achieve their business objectives but also to be a real support for society. For 20 years, Kaufland has been growing alongside Romania, through sustainable investments in people, local partnerships, communities. This annual study confirms that our actions have a concrete and measurable impact – both economically and socially – on the quality of Romanians’ daily lives. The results motivate us to continue with the same energy, responsibility and commitment to the future of Romania,” said Marco Hößl, General Manager of Kaufland Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

Last year, Kaufland invested 9.5 million euros in social responsibility projects with a direct impact on the community. These include two financing programs, În Stare de Bine and Start ONG, through which the company provides non-refundable grants to non-governmental organizations.
