Adrian Frigea, Leroy Merlin: “We will launch a study to find what our clients want in terms of energy renovation and efficiency”

“In our decarbonization strategy, energy plays an important role, it is a strategic pillar for the development of our company. We focus on three major directions, that of reducing energy consumption, using energy from renewable sources and installing photovoltaic panels for energy production. Leroy Merlin’s vision is to build a better home for its inhabitants and for the planet and represents our commitment to provide sustainable and affordable solutions on our way to climate neutrality.

Our objectives are in line with the European and international objectives of reducing the carbon footprint. For example, in the year 2023 we achieved a reduction in carbon emissions associated with energy by almost 1.3 tons of CO2.

We are at the crossroads where we can impact both our own activities and contribute to the energy efficiency of customers in the areas we serve,” Adrian Frigea, Carbon and Climate Leader, Leroy Merlin said during Green Energy Conference organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.

“We can offer customers solutions to help them reduce their carbon footprint and reduce their energy consumption through the products we offer, such as heat pumps, photovoltaic panels, LED lighting, home insulation solutions, etc.

Practically, our ambition to be a responsible company in the Romanian market is our guide for future directions. On a local level, we have already started actions and partnerships with various companies, such as Auchan and Helexia, through which we installed photovoltaic panels.

I would like to mention that our goals are still to reduce our carbon footprint by 50% by 2035 vs. the level of 2022. These are based both on actions we take in energy, but especially in products we offer, where we want to continue to innovate.

More and more customers tend to look for information about the raw material, the production process, are interested in the traceability of wood for wood products, or how a product they buy from us can affect or influence their health. From what we observe in the discussions we have with suppliers, there are starting to be more and more directions that they access, they come with proposals to us.

We proposed that next year we would start a study from which it would emerge what is, in fact, the orientation and what the client is looking for in terms of sustainability, but especially in terms of energy renovation. There are already companies that promote products that have a smaller impact on the carbon footprint.”
