Edenred to launch virtual cards in Romania

    Published on

Edenred will launch, for the first time, virtual cards for Meal Card, Holiday Card, Cultural Card, and Gift Card products. The solution will provide the beneficiaries with the same functionalities as a traditional vouchers card, but without the plastic material support. The new digital functionalities offered by Edenred will be available as soon as the law on the possibility of issuing vouchers on virtual card will enter into force.

”From meal vouchers on paper, in line with the evolving consumer needs and global trends, Edenred has redefined its business model through self-reinvention and innovation, becoming today a leading digital platform for services and payments. Edenred virtual cards represent the next natural step, adapted to the new working models of companies and employees and aligned with a major environmental imperative – the reduction of plastic from production processes. Through this initiative, Edenred is reinforcing its commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050″, stated Görkem Oran, General Manager of Edenred Romania.

The virtual card is a unique 16-digit card number, digitally generated and attached to the user’s account in the MyEdenred app, which will offer the same features as a physical card, but directly from the smartphone. Once the card is activated in the app, the beneficiaries will enjoy the full digital experience offered by the Edenred ecosystem.

The introduction of virtual cards complements the digital ecosystem offered by Edenred and also contributes to the process of plastic elimination, announced at the end of 2021, when the company launched eco cards made from 85.5% recycled PVC, becoming at that time the first provider of employee benefits in Romania to offer more environmentally friendly cards.

Edenred aims to protect the environment by reducing carbon footprint, resource consumption, and waste, with the objective of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
