Mihaela Suciu, DEER: “We need better protection for our electrical networks against cyber-attacks”

    Published on

“We need solutions that provide us with much greater protection against cyber-attacks for the electrical networks we manage.

We have over 200,000 km of networks, over 30,000 transformation positions, over 3.8 million end users. We distribute electricity on 40.7% of Romania’s surface, in 18 counties. We are the largest energy distributor in Romania and our challenges are just as great,” Mihaela Suciu, general manager of Distributie Energie Electrica Romania, said during Cyber security in Energy Forum.

“I can’t say that we don’t have software or solutions to protect us, but it seems that they are not enough. We have to be one step ahead of hackers.

At DEER we try to bring the future into the present. We are constantly looking for solutions. We have an IT department. We have a SCADA and telecommunications department, but I think we need much better and more efficient solutions than the ones we currently have.

According to a European Commission report, in 2024 over 22 billion devices will be connected to the Internet, which may be vulnerable to cyber-attacks.”
