Noni Jain, Wipro: “We need to make an inclusive work environment for our workforce and keep the diversity alive”
“We have many generations working in our organizations. Talking about Gen X, Gen Z, millennials, these are all diverse generations that are now comprising the culture of an organization. How do we harness their potential or how do we really make sure that we are all aligned to a common purpose to the organization? It becomes a bigger challenge even considering we are working remotely, and this is a bigger challenge for leaders, for organisations to bring in a more inclusive workforce and culture,” Noni Jain, Europe Head – Talent Acquisition, Wipro said during Belonging at Work conference organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.
“How should organisations really give some support enablers for employees to come together? Start with the basics. Open some communication platforms, let them communicate openly. These generations have different mindsets, some want to un-learn and re-learn certain aspects to be relevant in today’s work environment. Other generations think more about upskilling very fast, very soon. They don’t stay with the same skills for a longer period of time.
We need to make an inclusive work environment for our workforce and keep the diversity alive. Don’t kill the diversity. When we are recruiting, we hire from diverse sources, but we don’t bring people into organization to align them together, we need to let that diversity breed, and that’s when people feel valued, respected, heard and feel they can contribute ideas equally and that’s what makes the organization successful. That is how I would harness the potential of multigenerational workforce and bringing them together by keeping the diversity alive.
KPIs are important, because if we have inclusive HR policies and practices you need to monitor the impact, you need to understand whether you are in the right direction, whether you are gaining out of certain policies and practices that you have put in place. What works in one country or geography may not work in another.
Romania is highly diverse with the gender equality. We don’t need to really focus on KPI to hire more women than women, we look at competencies, skills, and abilities of people we hire to do the job.”
