Mastercard and OTP Bank in partnership with Honeywell provide solution that allows contactless payment for DPD couriers

    Published on

Mastercard strengthens its long-term partnership with DPD, a European leader in road deliveries, and implements a new contactless payment solution upon delivery, in partnership with OTP Bank and Honeywell International Inc. The initiative marks a premiere, being for the first time when a device intended for businesses, Honeywell ScanPal, is transformed into a POS, thanks to the Tap on Phone application offered by OTP Bank.

“E-commerce is growing at a rapid pace, becoming the new norm, and customers expect an impeccable experience and easy-to-use services, from online shopping carts to door-to-door delivery. We are strengthening our partnership with DPD and, together with our partners, OTP Bank and Honeywell International Inc., are offering a new solution that encourages card payments on delivery for goods purchased online. Electronic payment on delivery is a modern and transparent solution and, in addition, it is advantageous for all parties involved – the delivery service becomes more efficient in terms of time and money management, the recipient has an easy and secure payment method, and the sender is reimbursed faster. We are looking forward to seeing how the new payment solution will be received,” said Cosmin Vladimirescu, Country Manager Romania and Croatia, Mastercard.

Honeywell ScanPal is a portable mobile touch screen terminal, available on Android ™, with advanced options that allow it to be used in areas such as retail, DSD, pick-up and delivery and field services. The device uses the Tap on Phone application provided by OTP Bank, a tool launched in March this year, which offers mobility, speed and flexibility in the payment acceptance of contactless bank cards and alternative payment devices, equipped with NFC technology. The solution is Mastercard certified and complies with the highest data security standards.

“In the context of the accelerated growth of e-commerce, to offer our customers the possibility to pay by card by courier is something natural. The new IT solution, developed together with the partners from Mastercard, Honeywell and OTP Bank, marks a premiere for the courier market and allows modern, secure and fast contactless transactions. The desire to create a quality experience for our customers is what motivates us. It is known, moreover, that we, at DPD Romania, were the first to offer payment options with the card, upon delivery, and we managed to do this together with Mastercard, within a solid partnership, which we are determined to we continue it,” said Karla Codrea, CEO of DPD Romania.

“We are dedicated to offering our customers the latest payment solutions, so the development of the” Tap on Phone “application is a natural step, in line with our digital payment strategy. As payment behavior changes rapidly, both in the consumer and commercial segments, mobility and accessibility have become key factors, which are well represented in our portfolio of products and services. We are proud to be among the top banks in Romania in terms of digital payment solutions and we will focus on developing this line of business,” said Roxana Hidan, Head of Business Division OTP Bank Romania.

Payments can be made with any contactless card or using an electronic wallet, in which case the PIN code is not required, the authentication of the transaction being done directly in the wallet.

The service is available to both companies and consumers. With a team of over 1400 couriers and national coverage, DPD Romania delivers over 18 million parcels per year.
