Banca Transilvania is supporting one of Romania’s most significant energy infrastructure investments by providing 300 million euros in financing to Transgaz, Romania’s national natural gas transmission operator. The facility represents the largest bilateral financing provided by Banca Transilvania to the energy sector to date.
The financing will support the development and modernization of Romania’s national natural gas transmission infrastructure, at a time when energy security, regional interconnection and infrastructure resilience have become strategic priorities for both Romania and Europe.
“A competitive economy needs strong infrastructure. By financing Transgaz, we are supporting investments that strengthen Romania’s capacity to grow, attract investment and consolidate its strategic role in the region. This financing brings together two flagship Romanian companies and capital market players, working together to develop Romania’s strategic energy infrastructure,” said Ömer Tetik, CEO of Banca Transilvania.
Ion Sterian, CEO of Transgaz, said: “Natural gas transmission infrastructure is the backbone of the national energy system, and its accelerated development through investment is essential to strengthening Romania’s strategic role at regional and European level. The €300 million financing from Banca Transilvania, granted to Transgaz for the development of its natural gas transmission infrastructure, is not only the largest financing provided by the bank to the energy sector, but represents much more: a strategic financing partnership at competitive costs, established to support Transgaz’s investment programme.”
The financing underscores the strategic importance of continued investment in Romania’s natural gas transmission network and the role of domestic financial institutions in supporting major infrastructure projects with regional significance.
