The transition to electric mobility is becoming essential for achieving Europe’s climate neutrality targets, according to Miltiades Babilis, Chief E-Mobility Officer of PPC Group, who announced that PPC Blue has surpassed 5,000 charging points across Southeast Europe.

Speaking at FOREN 2026 energy conference, Babilis emphasized that decarbonizing transport is essential if Europe is to meet its objective of becoming climate-neutral by 2050.

“The big picture says that Europe wants to be 100% CO2-neutral by 2050,” Babilis said. “The biggest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions is by far the transport segment. Transport accounts for more than 30% of total greenhouse gas emissions in Europe, and around 75% of that comes from road transport. We all understand the importance of greening road transport if we want to contribute successfully and quickly to the European target of climate neutrality by 2050.”

Babilis noted that the transition to electric mobility is not only about environmental targets but also about supporting the fundamental principles on which the European Union is built.

“The European project is based on two basic values: the free movement of goods and the free movement of people,” he said. “Who is better positioned than the transport sector to ensure that these two fundamental European values continue to be served successfully?”

Against this backdrop, Babilis pointed to the rapid expansion of PPC Blue’s charging infrastructure network throughout the region.

“PPC Blue is the largest EV charging network in Southeast Europe,” he said. “We have very recently surpassed 5,000 charging points across the region.”

According to Babilis, reaching this milestone places PPC Blue among the leading electric vehicle charging operators in Europe.

“Having 5,000 charging points means that we are among the top 10 charging point operators and EV solution providers in Europe,” he said. “There are not many companies from our region that rank among the top 10 players in their segment at the European level, and we are continuing to grow.”

“We have plans for further growth that, for the time being, cannot be disclosed,” he said. “But you can easily imagine the directions in which we want to expand.”
