Georgiana Andrei, Regina Maria: “It’s important to have leaders and managers talk openly about mental health and wellbeing”

“There is a connection between employee engagement and employee wellbeing. Once we work on employee wellbeing, we will also be able to impact their engagement. Looking at what happened over the past years, it’s obvious that companies have been more and more concerned about their employees wellbeing.

When defining wellbeing, companies usually look at both physical health and mental health. The beginning of the pandemic was very much about physical health, keeping the employees healthy, not having them fear about what will happen to them or their families. Now the trend went more towards mental health, because we all have been affected by this pandemic,” Georgiana Andrei, Corporate Sales Director, Regina Maria said during Belonging at Work conference organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.

“Today we see more and more CEOs that are the table having the discussion about wellbeing and mental health. It’s important to have leaders and managers talk openly about this.

If there would be one thing to mention regarding employee wellbeing, I think the first step should be to normalize it and to make it acceptable to say, for example, I have a headache and I can’t concentrate or I don’t have a good day and maybe I need some help to pass through this.

A recent study was saying that around 80 percent of employees believe that the company is responsible for their wellbeing. On the other hand, when they were asked if they would speak to their direct manager about a mental health problem that they are facing, this percentage was below 30 percent.”
