DN AGRAR acquires 800 Holstein cows to grow the Apold farm

    Published on

DN AGRAR GROUP S.A. (DN) continues the investments in the Apold farm, through the acquisition of 800 cows, the Holstein breed.  The goal is to increase the production capacity and renew the herd of milking cows and young cattle. Also, for the Apold farm, the company bought additional 200 IGLU shelters for young cattle, currently counting 600 units, sufficient capacity to cover the growth of the farm’s livestock.

The use of IGLU-type shelters lasts for approximately 3 months, then the calves are transferred to the Prodlact farm (whose activity consists in raising dairy cattle), where they remain for approximately 20 months, a period that they spend both indoors, as well as in the field. The benefits of raising animals in the open air are known, as movement in the open air ensures the health of the cows and increases milk production, important aspects that the company takes into account. After this period, the cows return to the farm, being directly integrated into the milking cycle.

Jan Gijsbertus de Boer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of DN AGRAR Group:

“At DN AGRAR we continue the investments for the development of the company. Until now, the purchases for the Apold farm reach a herd of 1,200 animals, part of which is used to renew the herd of milking cows, and another part to complete the new production capacity of the farm. The investments we made last year, for the modernization and expansion of the milking parlors, allow us to increase both the cattle herd and milk production, without compromising on the quality standards that define our company.”

DN AGRAR totals over 11,000 animals, both dairy cows and young cattle. The company’s objective is to reach a herd of approximately 12,500 animals this year, an objective that can be achieved both by developing its own farms and by acquiring other farms with vegetable and/or livestock production in the near future.
