Greenvolt signs agreement with Carrefour to deploy solar carports across up to 120 retail stores in France

    Published on

Greenvolt Next, a Greenvolt Group company specialised in decentralised renewable energy solutions for the commercial and industrial sectors, has signed an agreement with Carrefour Property to deploy photovoltaic carport installations across Carrefour retail store car parks in France.

The agreement follows a national tender launched by Carrefour Property for the development, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of photovoltaic carports across its nationwide portfolio. This partnership involves approximately 25 MWp of installed capacity and is expected to comprise around 45,000 photovoltaic panels.

The project is expected to be deployed across 120 Carrefour sites throughout France. Each installation will be adapted to the operational and technical specificities of each store, including car park layouts, underground utilities, customer traffic, continuity of store operations, grid connection and permitting requirements.

Under the 20-year partnership, structured as a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), Greenvolt Next will provide a turnkey solution covering the financing, studies, development, construction, operation and maintenance of the photovoltaic installations.

The estimated annual production will cover a significant share of the electricity consumption of the relevant stores, helping reduce Carrefour’s exposure to energy price volatility and contributing to the decarbonisation of real estate assets.

“This partnership with Carrefour Property reflects the strength of Greenvolt Next’s pan-European platform. Our direct experience across similar projects with other major retail players gives us a proven model that we bring to each market as we support large-scale players in their energy transition,” says João Manso Neto, CEO of Greenvolt Group.

“This agreement allows us to accelerate the integration of photovoltaic production across our real estate portfolio in France, while improving the experience of our customers and supporting the energy transition of our stores. Beyond the environmental impact, this partnership provides long-term financial predictability, helping protect us from electricity price volatility while reinforcing our broader sustainability commitments”, highlights Evan Linker, Global Energy Director at Carrefour.
