    Renovatio Solar to build 918 MWh battery energy storage system for RNV Infrastructure and Greenvolt Power

    Renovatio Solar, the EPC division of Renovatio specialising in photovoltaic and energy storage projects, has signed a strategic partnership with CATL, the global battery market leader, to build the Borzești Energy Storage project, a 918 MWh battery energy storage system that will be the largest project of its kind in Romania.

    The project is being developed through Borzești Energy Storage SRL, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) owned by RNV Infrastructure and Greenvolt Power. Renovatio Solar will provide full EPC services, covering engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning, with an estimated execution period of 12 months.

Our partnership with CATL demonstrates Renovatio’s ability to access globally leading technologies at scale and further strengthens our position as an EPC integrator for large-scale projects in the European photovoltaic and energy storage market,” said Horațiu Regneală, CEO of Renovatio Solar.

    “Central and Eastern Europe, and Romania in particular, remain strategic markets for Greenvolt. Borzești represents a natural extension of the energy storage platform we are developing across the region, particularly in Hungary and Poland. The project also reflects our conviction about the strategic role of energy storage in the energy transition. Storage has become one of the key pillars of our growth strategy, with a portfolio of 5 GW,” added João Manso Neto, CEO of Greenvolt Group.

    The Borzești energy storage system will capture surplus electricity generated during midday hours, when solar production exceeds demand, and discharge it during the evening peak, when electricity demand reaches its highest levels and Romania relies on imports.

    The battery system will also provide rapid response to fluctuations in grid frequency, helping to manage imbalances significantly faster than conventional methods. By improving the flexibility and responsiveness of the power system, the project is expected to support the integration of additional renewable energy capacity and contribute to greater stability of Romania’s electricity grid.
