The first edition of the BusinessPedia Connect debates is hosted by the NBR Palace on September 15: Who takes Romania forward?

    Published on

BusinessPedia brings two generations of entrepreneurs and leaders to the NBR for a debate on the next 35 years of the Romanian economy.

    * Ionuț Bonoiu launches the volume “An illustrated history of business in Romania from 1850 to 1948”.

    * The historical perspective and debate will be completed by a tour of the NBR Museum.

Journalist Ionuț Bonoiu and BusinessPedia, Romania’s business encyclopedia, organize on September 15 the event BusinessPedia Connect @ NBR – “Who takes Romania forward”, at the Palace of the National Bank of Romania. The debates will bring two generations of entrepreneurs and business leaders to the same table.

The event is structured as a morning of debates about capital, trust and entrepreneurship, both with the generation that built the economy after 1989 and with the generation that needs to build the economy in the next 35 years.

“We have reconstructed the history of business before 1948 from the archives. But the entrepreneurial history after 1989 must be documented as well as possible, and the companies of this generation must be prepared to withstand for the coming decades,” says Ionuț Bonoiu, founder of BusinessPedia.

Among the confirmed participants are entrepreneurs and business leaders such as Teofil Mureșan (E-INFRA), Fady Chreih (Regina Maria), Marius Ștefan (Autonom), Sorin Preda (Global Vision), Simona Gemeneanu (Morphosis Capital), Camelia Șucu (Red Cross & ClassIn), Radu Hanga (BVB), Bogdan Doicescu (Bog’Art) and Elisabeta Moraru (Google).

The event has limited access, exclusively by invitation and prior registration, subject to availability. Participants can also register for the tour of the NBR Museum based on a separate appointment. Details about the event: https://businesspedia.ro/eveniment-businesspedia-connect-bnr-2026/

The partners of this event are CCIFER, ASEBUSS, CFA Society Romania, The Real Estate Event and Cariere Magazine

    BusinessPedia Connect @ BNR

The event takes place on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, between 08:30 and 14:00, at the Palace of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest.

The program starts with the session “Trust as infrastructure”, which will address the necessary conditions for the next stage of Romania’s development: stability and confidence, investments and access to capital, the relationship between Romanian and international capital, financing companies and the role of strong institutions.

The event continues with the BusinessPedia Talks sessions. The first, “How we got here”, is dedicated to the entrepreneurs, companies, managers and institutions that changed Romania after 1989 and the contribution of different categories of actors to the development of the modern economy.

The second, “What’s Next for Romanian Business”, shifts the perspective to the next 35 years and to the people who will build them: the continuators who take over and transform family businesses, the founders who are now starting from scratch, the entrepreneurs who scale and expand internationally, and the leaders who build organizations capable of operating beyond the founder.

At the end of the sessions, BusinessPedia will summarize the main conclusions of the event in “10 ideas for Romania moving forward”, about capital and trust, the companies and entrepreneurs who built Romania, the new generation of business and the priorities of the next 35 years.

The guests will also answer a common question: “Which Romanian entrepreneur or manager should be known by the next generation?” The answers will contribute to shaping a map of the people who built companies, industries and institutions and who deserve to remain in Romania’s economic memory.

“An illustrated history of business in Romania”

On September 15, at the Palace of the National Bank of Romania, BusinessPedia will also bring to the event the historical perspective from which the initiative of journalist Ionuț Bonoiu to build the largest encyclopedia about business in Romania started, by launching “An illustrated history of business in Romania from 1850 to 1948”, the third volume of the BusinessPedia collection.

After two years of work through archives with thousands of images, the book proposes an extensive visual journey through an almost forgotten century of Romanian entrepreneurship. More precisely, the period in which large families of merchants, industrialists and bankers were formed, factories, banks, commercial networks and brands were built that managed to compete with European ones, before this world was brutally interrupted after nationalization in 1948.

After the re-edition of the volumes signed by Dr. Nicolae I. Angelescu (The Merchants of the Past) and Dimitrie Hagi Theodoraky (Memories of the Merchant Past), the new appearance in the BusinessPedia collection is an original volume, conceived as an ample visual synthesis of the history of Romanian business from 1850 to 1948.

The volume brings together hundreds of vintage photographs, portraits of merchants, industrialists and bankers, images of factories, shops, hotels, cafes and bank headquarters, along with stories about the people and families who contributed to the modernization of Romanian commerce, industry and finance.
