OMV Petrom invested 115 million euros in modernizing Petrobrazi’s electrical infrastructure

OMV Petrom invested approximately 115 million euros to modernize the electrical infrastructure of the Petrobrazi refinery. The investment is part of Petrobrazi refinery’s broader modernization and transformation program.

“A modern electrical infrastructure is essential for the proper operation of a refinery. Through this investment, we are strengthening Petrobrazi’s electrical infrastructure to support both the refinery’s current operations and the new capacities under development, including SAF and HVO production as well as the green hydrogen projects. This is an important step in Petrobrazi’s transformation to meet the energy requirements of the future,” said Radu Căprău, member of the OMV Petrom Executive Board responsible for Refining and Marketing.

The project included the construction of a high-voltage power line directly connected to the Transelectrica substation, of a new-generation electrical substation, as well as a power distribution substation.

The new power infrastructure uses Blue GIS technology, a modern electrical switching system with a low environmental impact.  The refinery operates its own power generation unit, which currently supplies nearly all of its electricity needs.

A 7 MW photovoltaic energy project is also under construction at Petrobrazi.  The new electrical infrastructure creates the necessary conditions for integrating major projects currently under implementation, such as the production unit for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel (HVO), as well as green hydrogen production capacities.
