    BCR provided more than 535 million euros in energy financing in the first eight months of 2026

    Published on

    Banca Comercială Română (BCR) provided 535 million euros in financing for energy projects in Romania during the first eight months of 2026, including EUR 360 million dedicated exclusively to renewable energy generation capacity. The installed capacity financed during this period totals 948 MW, comprising 780 MW of renewable generation capacity and 168 MW of storage capacity.

    Overall, BCR is currently part of financing structures supporting energy projects totaling 3,020 MW, at various stages of development, construction and operation:

    • 2,033 MW of wind capacity;
    • 552 MW of storage capacity, including 168 MW in standalone projects and 384 MW integrated into hybrid projects;
    • 435 MW of solar PV capacity, including 295 MW in standalone projects and 140 MW integrated into hybrid projects.

    The financing activity in 2026 reflects a fundamental transformation of BCR’s energy portfolio. In 2020, the bank’s energy exposure stood at 930 million euros and was predominantly focused on the oil and gas sector. By August 2026, the energy and utilities portfolio had reached almost 3 billion euros, with 69% represented by utilities and renewable energy. Financing for wind, solar PV and storage projects alone exceeds EUR 1 billion.

    In recent years, BCR has supported more than 2,600 MW of new renewable capacity, alongside investments in transmission and distribution networks and critical infrastructure.

    “The volumes we are seeing today are a clear signal of how the market is evolving. Six years ago, we were predominantly financing oil and gas. Today, two out of every three MW we finance are wind power, while almost one in five MW is storage capacity — exactly what the system needs to operate efficiently,” said Manuela Trisnevschi, Head of Energy and Utilities, BCR.

    The latest transaction is the financing of the 77 MW Urleasca wind farm, developed by Scatec ASA. BCR and Erste Group are providing EUR 132 million in financing, of which BCR’s contribution amounts to EUR 76 million.

    In 2026, BCR also announced financing for the following renewable energy projects:

    • Peștera II wind farm, Constanța County — 392 MW, financed through a EUR 151 million BCR–Erste Group financing package;
    • Dobrun and Sadova solar PV projects, developed by Scatec in Dolj and Olt counties — 190 MW, financed by BCR with EUR 42.5 million;
    • Săcele wind farm, Constanța County, developed by Greenvolt Power — 49.8 MW, financed through a EUR 58.5 million BCR–Erste Group financing package;
    • Gura Văii–CEE Onești wind farm, Bacău County — 49.8 MW, financed by BCR with EUR 47 million.
