Transelectrica announced the successful completion of a critical grid connection test for the new Mintia Power Plant, marking a major milestone in one of the country’s most significant energy infrastructure projects.

According to the company, the test involved energizing the 400 kV connection associated with Gas Turbine 1 (TG1), as well as the transformers linking the plant to the national electricity grid and supplying the facility’s internal systems. The test was completed successfully on June 15 at 15:26 local time.

Following the successful energization, technical specialists at the plant have continued verification and testing activities on the electrical installations. The commissioning process is expected to take approximately 30 days before the next operational milestones are reached.

“This achievement reflects the continuous efforts, commitment and close cooperation between the entities involved in the project and the Romanian state authorities,” Transelectrica said in a statement. “It also demonstrates the dedication, professionalism and sustained work of all teams that contributed to the completion of this critical stage.”

The project, which has attracted investments estimated at around 1.4 billion euros, is considered strategic for Romania’s energy transition and for enhancing the resilience of the national power system.

The successful completion of the grid connection test follows months of intensive work by Transelectrica, project contractors and the plant developer to integrate the new generating capacity into Romania’s electricity transmission network. Earlier this year, Transelectrica had committed to accelerating the energization schedule for the first 575 MW gas turbine unit, paving the way for the current testing phase.
