Virgil Popescu, Energy Minister: “We need European financing lines for the gas transition”

    Published on

“Romania can accept the new target and will do everything possible to meet the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions given that 25% of the energy mix is coal, which we cannot eliminate quickly. Gas is a very important fuel, there must be lines to finance the transition to gas for states that have a large proportion of coal in the energy mix” Virgil Popescu, Minister of Economy, Energy and Business Environment, said during the 9th edition of the Romanian Energy Day, an international event organized by the Romanian Energy Center.

“We really have great offshore potential in the Black Sea area, to develop wind farms as soon as possible. There is photovoltaic potential, to develop a photovoltaic cell industry. Romania is ready to do this. It is important and essential to ensure a very short supply chain throughout Europe,” he added.

Virgil Popescu addressed the European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, present at the conference, with the request that the European Commission to find a strategy inside Europe to have this supply chain. “We ask for your help for the transition to gas and a short supply chain in Europe,” Virgil Popescu underlined.
