Distribuție Energie Electrică România (DEER) announces that Mihaela Suciu has begun a new four-year term as Chief Executive Officer of the company, effective October 5, 2026.
The new mandate ensures continuity in DEER’s consolidation and transformation process and marks a new stage focused on accelerating and completing investments, digitalising and modernising the electricity distribution networks, strengthening infrastructure resilience, and improving the company’s overall performance.
Following four years in which DEER operated against a complex energy and economic backdrop, while simultaneously integrating and harmonising the structures, processes and systems resulting from the merger of the three former regional distribution companies, the company enters Mihaela Suciu’s new mandate with a stronger financial and investment position and major development projects underway.
“I see this new mandate first and foremost as a responsibility and a commitment to the company, to my colleagues and to the more than four million customers we serve. I would like to thank DEER’s Board of Directors and the Electrica Group management for their trust. The first mandate was about integration, stabilisation and building a solid foundation. We are now entering a development phase in which our priority is to turn the projects and funding we have secured into completed investments and tangible results. We need execution capacity, technology and, equally importantly, highly skilled professionals. DEER’s performance is the result of a high-performing team, and we are ready to build the company’s next stage of development,” said Mihaela Suciu, CEO of DEER.
Mihaela Suciu has led Distribuție Energie Electrică Romania since April 2022, a period marked by the energy crisis, energy price volatility, significant pressure on the financial flows of distribution system operators and major changes across the energy sector.
Against this backdrop, the company has significantly strengthened its financial and investment performance. Net profit increased from RON 389 million in 2022 to more than RON 812 million in 2025, while the value of investments increased from RON 558 million in 2022 to RON 878 million in 2025.
For 2026, DEER has approved the largest CAPEX programme in the company’s history, worth RON 1.48 billion.
At the same time, DEER has strengthened its ability to attract non-reimbursable funding. The company has secured more than RON 2.1 billion through Romania’s Modernisation Fund, with the total value of the related projects approaching RON 3.2 billion.
These results create the basis for the central objective of the new mandate: moving from projects and funding to the implementation and completion of investments, with a direct impact on the quality and capacity of the electricity distribution network.
“We have the funding, we have the projects and we have access to European funds. The major challenge is to complete the investments. We need to anticipate needs, prepare the infrastructure and have solutions available when challenges emerge. The essence of leadership is to anticipate and be prepared,” Mihaela Suciu emphasised.
Infrastructure modernisation and digitalisation are two interconnected components of DEER’s transformation process. Investments in the network are being accompanied by the automation of operations, the expansion of smart metering systems, the use of data and advanced technologies, the development of predictive maintenance and the strengthening of cybersecurity.
The company’s development programme includes the deployment of 1.1 million smart meters, the modernisation and construction of substations and electricity networks, the replacement and upgrading of equipment, and the digitalisation of operational and business processes.
The objective is to develop a smarter, more flexible and more resilient electricity distribution network, capable of supporting changing patterns of energy consumption and generation while also enabling economic development in the regions served by DEER.
For DEER, this approach also means changing the way infrastructure is planned: the network should not only respond to existing demand, but anticipate future development and be ready before emerging needs become constraints.
According to DEER’s 2026–2035 Development Plan, the company has earmarked approximately EUR 1 billion in investments for the modernisation and development of its electricity distribution infrastructure.
DEER currently serves more than four million customers and operates more than 200,000 kilometres of electricity networks across 18 counties, covering an area equivalent to 40.7% of Romania’s territory.
