ICI Bucharest hosts kick-off meeting for the RO AI Factory Project

    Published on

Researchers and companies in Romania will be able to develop and test artificial intelligence solutions using the infrastructure and expertise made available through the RO AI Factory. With ICI Bucharest serving as the project’s hosting entity, the initiative aims to lower barriers to access advanced computing resources, including for start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The implementation of the project was at the centre of the “RO AI Factory Kick-off Meeting: Building Romania’s AI Ecosystem”, held on Monday, 5 October 2026, at the headquarters of ICI Bucharest. The event brought together consortium partners and representatives of national and European institutions to discuss the development of the RO AI Factory and its integration into the European network of AI Factories.

“Romania cannot remain merely a consumer of artificial intelligence. We have specialists and research teams capable of developing solutions, but they also need the resources to do so. Through the RO AI Factory, we will provide them with access to computing power and expert support. We want the infrastructure to be used, including by small companies, and we want to see the results of applied research translated into solutions for industry and public administration,” said Adrian-Victor Vevera, Director General of ICI Bucharest, in his opening remarks.

In addition to computing power, future users will have access to tools for AI model development, technical support, and training programmes. The services will be available to research teams, universities, start-ups, SMEs, and public institutions that require resources to develop, test, and validate artificial intelligence solutions.

The project will focus on five key areas: industry and manufacturing, cybersecurity, life sciences, digital public services, and autonomous systems. Access to infrastructure and expertise will support both research in these fields and the development of applications for the economy and public administration.

Through the RO AI Factory, Romania aims to strengthen its AI ecosystem by connecting research, technological infrastructure, industry, and public institutions, while facilitating access to advanced resources for organisations of different sizes and levels of technological maturity.
