UNIQA Asigurări and UNIQA Asigurări de Viață announced their financial performance for the first half of 2026, recording an 8% increase in gross written premiums compared to the same period of 2025, reaching total sales of EUR 84 million.
The statutory net profit before tax reported by the two UNIQA companies in the first six months of 2026 amounted to nearly EUR 11 million.
“The first six months of the year confirm that UNIQA’s strategic direction, built on sustainable growth, portfolio diversification, and a close understanding of customers’ real needs, is the right one. Economic and social pressures, together with the impact of climate change, are prompting both individuals and companies to pay greater attention to how they protect their income, assets, and future plans. In this context, our role is to provide accessible, transparent, and relevant insurance solutions while standing by our customers when they need support the most”, said Paul Cazacu (photo), CEO and President of the Management Board of UNIQA Asigurări.
The growth of the non-life insurance business was primarily driven by non-motor insurance segments.
In the retail segment, home insurance recorded a 12% increase, confirming growing interest in solutions that provide protection against tangible risks arising from unforeseen events.
At the same time, travel insurance sales grew by 20% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period of 2025. The relevance of this type of financial protection is reflected in the claims paid by UNIQA Asigurări: the number of travel insurance claims settled increased by 40% year-on-year, while the total value of indemnities paid rose by 23% to nearly RON 2.6 million. The most frequent claims were related to illnesses occurring during travel, for which almost RON 1.3 million in compensation was paid. In addition, the average indemnity paid for injuries caused by falls reached nearly RON 10,700, approximately 70% higher than in the first half of 2025, while the average claim for trip cancellation increased by 21% to almost RON 4,600.
In the corporate insurance segment, solutions designed for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) recorded a significant 32% increase in sales during the first six months of 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year. In an economic environment where companies must simultaneously manage cost pressures, uncertainty, and business continuity challenges, risk protection tools are becoming increasingly important.
“Today’s business environment requires resilience and effective risk management more than ever before. For small and medium-sized enterprises in particular, an unforeseen event can have a significant impact on operations and development plans. At the same time, climate change and the increasing occurrence of extreme weather events are creating new risks and placing additional pressure on assets and business activities. Through the solutions we develop for companies, we aim to offer more than financial compensation following a loss event; we strive to support businesses in maintaining continuity and adapting successfully to a constantly changing environment” said Ramona Bernic, Vice President of the Management Board of UNIQA Asigurări.
The Engineering insurance and Surety insurance segments also delivered positive results, recording double-digit growth in the first half of the year. Sales volumes increased by 12% and 16%, respectively, compared to the first half of 2025.
Health insurance also maintained strong growth potential within UNIQA’s portfolio, recording a 37% increase in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year.
“The growth of health insurance reflects the increasing interest in protection against health-related risks. These solutions are becoming ever more relevant in a context marked by budgetary pressures, where customers seek not only financial security but also predictable and rapid access to healthcare services. The ecosystem developed together with our network of medical providers, combined with our enhanced medical case management capabilities, ranging from appointment scheduling and identifying appropriate services to handling requests and documentation, helps simplify the customer experience and increases the value of this type of insurance” added Ramona Bernic, Vice President of the Management Board of UNIQA Asigurări.
Life insurance provided by UNIQA also continued to develop at a strong pace, with sales increasing by 16% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period of 2025, reaching nearly EUR 39 million in gross written premiums.
“We increasingly see that life insurance is no longer viewed solely as protection for exceptional situations, but as an integral part of responsible financial planning. At a time when people face economic uncertainty, pressure on household income, and rapidly changing priorities, having a long-term financial plan becomes more important than ever. Growth in the life insurance segment demonstrates increasing concern for protection and long-term stability. At UNIQA, we address this need through flexible solutions that combine financial protection with investment opportunities and can be adapted to customers’ different life stages and objectives”, said Mihaela Stroia, CEO and President of the Management Board of UNIQA Asigurări de Viață.
The company’s customer-centric approach is also reflected in its customer satisfaction results for the first half of the year. According to regular customer surveys, clients awarded UNIQA an overall score of 4.6 out of 5 stars for their experience with the company. Policy purchase and renewal processes, claims services, and interactions with the digital consultant ANA were also rated highly, with each receiving 4.8 out of 5 stars from customers.
The results achieved in the first half of 2026 reflect the positive performance of both UNIQA companies and support the Group’s strategic direction focused on portfolio diversification, development of high-potential business segments, and continuous enhancement of the customer experience, in a context where the need for financial protection and relevant insurance solutions is becoming increasingly important.
