OMV Petrom marks 25 years since its listing on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), a period of significant transformation and long-term value creation for shareholders and for the Romanian economy.
Since 2001, the company’s market capitalization increased from 1.6 billion RON to around 74 billion RON. Total shareholder return for the period between end 2001 and the end of August 2026 was more than 5,000%. Thus, the value of an investment of RON 1,000 in OMV Petrom shares at the end of 2001, together with the dividends cashed in since, would be more than RON 50,000 by the end of August 2026.
“Over the past 25 years, OMV Petrom has undergone a profound transformation. We evolved from a predominantly local oil and gas company, into a regional energy company – a reliable supplier of energy for Romania, providing around one third of the country’s fuels and natural gas as well as around 10% of its power generation. Today, we continue this transformation with the development of Neptun Deep, the largest natural gas project in the European Union, as well as other investments in the low and zero carbon area. Our objective remains to create long-term value for our shareholders and for the Romanian economy”, said Christina Verchere, CEO OMV Petrom.
Over the 25 years of being on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, approximately 2.3 million transactions with SNP shares were made. From the moment of listing until August 31, 2026, investors have traded more than 61 billion of SNP shares, worth over 26 billion RON.
OMV Petrom is one of the largest contributors to the state budget, with more than 48 billion EUR in taxes and dividends paid between 2005 and 2025. During the same period, the company invested over EUR 21 billion and has allocated around 210 million EUR to develop communities in Romania, focusing on environmental protection, education, health, and local development.
As of the end of June 2026, Romanian shareholders held around 46% of the shares (of which the Romanian state held 20.7%, and 25.1% were held by pension funds in Romania, as well as other Romanian natural persons and legal entities). More than half a million of Romanian individuals are, directly, OMV Petrom shareholders, and 8.5 million indirectly through the local pension funds. OMV Aktiengesellschaft, held a 51.2% stake in OMV Petrom, and the remaining 3.0% were held by other foreign investors.
