Nine electricians from Delgaz Grid, the electricity and natural gas distribution company of the E.ON Group in Romania, reached the podium at the 44th edition of the Electrician’s Trophy, the national professional competition held in Iași from 5 to 10 July.

Following three days of theoretical and practical tests, Delgaz Grid electricians earned one first place, four second places, and two third places in the individual competitions across the following specializations: Medium- and Low-Voltage Installation Assembly and Repair; Medium- and Low-Voltage Network Operations; Fault Detection in Underground Medium- and Low-Voltage Networks; Assembly and Repair of 110 kV and Medium-Voltage Primary Equipment in Substations; Transformer Substation Operations; and Protection, Relay and Automation Systems (PRAM).

Delgaz Grid’s team also secured first place in the Medium- and Low-Voltage Network Operations category.

In the Junior Electrician’s Trophy, third place was awarded to a student from the “Nicolae Vasilescu-Karpen” Technical College of Communications in Bacău.

“I congratulate all participants for the professionalism and dedication they demonstrated throughout this competition, and I would like to thank the members of the technical committees and everyone involved in organizing this edition. I am especially pleased with the results achieved by our colleagues, which confirm Delgaz Grid’s high level of expertise and the team’s commitment to performance and safety. The Electrician’s Trophy remains a benchmark competition that highlights the people and skills underpinning a safe, reliable, and high-performing energy system,” said Cristian Secoșan, Chief Executive Officer of Delgaz Grid.

The competition, organized by Delgaz Grid in partnership with Electrica SA, brought together representatives of Romania’s leading electricity distribution operators and energy service companies: Delgaz Grid (E.ON Group), Distribuție Energie Electrică România – DEER (Electrica Group), Distribuție Energie Oltenia, Rețele Electrice România (PPC Group), and Adrem.

Now in its 44th edition, the Electrician’s Trophy marks 49 years of tradition and remains one of the most important platforms for recognizing and developing professional skills in Romania’s energy sector.

For nearly five decades, the competition has brought together specialists from across the country, promoting professional excellence, the exchange of best practices, and a strong safety culture in the operation and development of energy infrastructure. At a time when the energy sector is undergoing rapid transformation driven by digitalization, network modernization, and the integration of new technologies, continuous professional training and the development of technical skills remain essential to ensuring safe, reliable, and high-quality services.

Holding the national finals close to 20 July carries special significance for Romania’s energy community, as the date coincides with both the feast day of Saint Elijah the Prophet, the spiritual patron saint of energy professionals, and Romanian Energy Day.

Iași occupies a special place in the history of the competition, having hosted the inaugural edition in 1977, as well as several milestone editions that have accompanied the evolution of Romania’s energy sector. In 2026, the city hosted the national finals for the seventh time, reaffirming its role as a landmark venue for energy professionals.

Year after year, the Electrician’s Trophy demonstrates that operational excellence and workplace safety are built on sustained investment in people. By supporting professional development and fostering an organizational culture focused on excellence, the competition helps prepare the specialists who ensure the safe operation of energy infrastructure and meet the challenges of tomorrow’s energy system.

Delgaz Grid, the distribution company of the German E.ON Group, operates a natural gas network of approximately 27,000 km across 20 counties in northern and western Romania (Cluj, Bistrița-Năsăud, Maramureș, Satu Mare, Sălaj, Timiș, Arad, Bihor, Caraș-Severin, Hunedoara, Mureș, Sibiu, Alba, Harghita, Iași, Botoșani, Vaslui, Suceava, Neamț and Bacău), as well as an electricity distribution network of more than 65,000 km in six counties in the Moldavia region: Bacău, Botoșani, Iași, Neamț, Suceava, and Vaslui. Together, these networks serve more than 3.6 million customers.

Since entering the Romanian market in 2005, E.ON has invested more than €2.7 billion, primarily in the modernization of its natural gas and electricity distribution networks, and has contributed €4.2 billion in taxes and duties to the Romanian state.
