PPC Renewables Romania adds a 13 MW BESS system to the Topolog wind farm

    Published on

PPC Renewables Romania, the largest private investor in renewable energy in Romania, is adding a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 13,5 MW | 27 MWh to the Topolog (Gebeleisis) wind farm. The project amounts to a total value of 29.8 million RON, of which approximately 4.9 million RON will be provided through European financing via the Modernisation Fund.

Located in Topolog, Tulcea County, the Topolog wind farm consists of five 3 MW wind turbines and six 2 MW wind turbines, totalling an installed power of 27 MW. The technology used by these turbines allows them to operate even when wind speeds do not reach optimal levels, although the Topolog area has high wind energy potential.

In addition to the development of the storage system, the project includes the construction of the necessary infrastructure elements, the arrangement of service roads, access and fencing, the implementation of safety lighting and monitoring systems, as well as the development of areas designated for operation, maintenance, security, and site organization.

The project benefits from financing through the Modernisation Fund – Supporting investments in the development of electricity storage capacities (batteries) connected to an existing renewable energy generation facility. The total investment amounts to 29,850,000.86 RON. The maximum amount provided by the Modernisation Fund represents 16.55% of eligible expenses, respectively 4,940,122.05 RON, while the amount covered by PPC Renewables Romania is 24,909,878.81 RON.
