Hidroelectrica has signed the works contract for the modernization project of the Stejaru Hydropower Plant (CHE Stejaru), one of the largest investment projects in the company’s portfolio. The contract, worth 97.5 million euros (excluding VAT), was awarded to Hidroserv.
“We are pleased that the works will be carried out by Hidroserv, our subsidiary, which allows us to ensure a high level of quality and professionalism. Through this project, we aim to confirm the company’s commitment to modernizing Hidroelectrica’s assets and strengthening our internal execution capacity by completing as many projects as possible with our own resources. The modernization of the Stejaru plant is a strategically important project in which we have invested a great deal of work, dedication, and resources. We believe that by signing this contract, we are taking a significant step towards strengthening some of the most important production capacities in the company’s portfolio — a commitment we have made to our clients and investors,” said Bogdan Badea, President of Hidroelectrica’s Directorate.
The investment is financed from Hidroelectrica’s own funds, and the contract was awarded through an open tender procedure based on the “best quality-price ratio” criterion.
The project aims to modernize and fully upgrade the four Type I hydro units (HA1–HA4), as well as the plant’s general installations, contributing to increased energy efficiency, improved installation security, and extended equipment lifespan. The contract duration is 66 months.
Located in Neamț County, the Stejaru Hydropower Plant (also known as “CHE Dimitrie Leonida”) is part of the hydrotechnical development of the Bistrița river and represents a technological landmark of Romania’s energy industry. The modernization works will include design, equipment supply, installation, commissioning, and post-implementation monitoring.
Currently, Hidroelectrica is the largest producer of renewable energy in Romania, managing a portfolio of 188 hydropower plants with a total capacity of 6.4 GW, as well as Crucea wind farm with an installed capacity of 108 MW.
