Monsson obtains DNV certification for its Battery Energy Storage System in Constanta

    Published on

Monsson announces that its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), installed in the commune of Galbiori, Constanta County, has successfully obtained safety compliance certification in accordance with the international standard IEC 62933-5-2:2020 and the DNV-EESS:2023-08 methodology for grid-connected electrochemical energy storage systems.

The certification was issued by DNV, one of the world’s leading certification body for renewable energy. It confirms that Monsson’s battery storage solution – built in a hall-type facility rather than a containerized format – meets the highest international standards for design and operational safety. At present, no other storage system in Romania or Europe holds such certification.

“In a context where product certifications have already become standard practice in the industry, Monsson chose to extend this rigor to the operational system level by subjecting the actual BESS configuration to an independent evaluation conducted by DNV. This certification validates not only the quality of the equipment, but also the integration, control logic, and operational safety under real operating conditions. This approach reflects our understanding of our role in developing the energy storage market: not just as an operator, but as an active part of a modern, safe, and responsible energy ecosystem. We aim for the rigor applied here to become a benchmark in the industry,” said Sebastian Enache, member of Monsson’s Board of Directors.

The commissioned storage unit has an installed capacity of 72 MWh and was built by Monsson through a unique project utilizing PRIME batteries locally manufactured in Romania. This capacity represents two of the three stages that will make up a total of 216 MWh of storage, to be commissioned over the course of this year and early next year at the same site. The modular concept, designed for large-scale storage solutions, employs the latest monitoring and safety technologies for this type of product. The monitoring and control software, developed in-house by the Monsson team, is designed for both storage system management and energy trading operations.
