ALRO puts into operation the new electric furnace for aging aluminum alloy plates, following an investment of 11.5 million RON

    Published on

The project is part of the Company’s strategy to increase the production of high and very high added value aluminum

ALRO S.A. one of the largest vertically integrated aluminum producers in Europe by production capacity, announces the commissioning of the electrically heated aging furnace, following a total investment of RON 11.5 million.

This state-of-the-art electric furnace will replace three other gas-fired furnaces, streamlining heat treatment operations in ALRO’s Wrought Aluminum Division and marking a significant step towards the Company’s goal of becoming a greener producer, providing low-carbon aluminum, suitable for market requirements. “Investing in state-of-the-art technology, such as this new fully electric heat treatment line, represents a strategic move to strengthen ALRO’s position as a leading supplier of high-value-added aluminum products,” said Marin CILIANU, CEO of ALRO. “By replacing natural gas with electricity, this equipment not only brings added precision and efficiency to our production processes, but also aligns with our strong commitment to sustainable development.

Compared to traditional solutions, electric heat treatment furnaces bring multiple benefits: increased efficiency, superior control, reduced environmental impact and better alignment with current sustainability and industry requirements. Technological modernization allows for increased product quality, significantly reduced environmental impact and better positions us to meet the increasingly complex requirements of our customers globally, to control the carbon footprint and specific emissions,” added Marin CILIANU. The project will optimize the heat treatment process (artificial aging) by increasing the efficiency of the equipment used and ensuring more precise control of temperature and other critical parameters. This will lead to more efficient production of high-value-added and superior-quality aluminum. The system is specifically designed for the aging of aluminum plates from the 2xxx, 6xxx and 7xxx alloy series, with dimensions up to 13,000 mm in length and 2,200 mm in width.
