Vicentiu Ciobanu, Prime Batteries: “One of our goals is to transform Romania into an energy hub for energy storage”

“We started in 2015 as a company that produced batteries for electric cars. At that time, we were ahead of the curve and it was difficult to promote our solutions because there was no awareness of the need for electric transportation and the related benefits.

In 2018, we installed the first batteries for residential systems in Western Europe and we had to educate the market to understand the benefits of storing at the point of consumption, not at the point of generation,” Vicentiu Ciobanu, CEO Prime Batteries said at Energy Expo 2025.

• One of our goals is to transform Romania into an energy hub for energy storage, because we are convinced that in the fairly near future, electricity storage is an essential element for the security and integrity of the national electricity system.
• Although there is a major need to put energy storage facilities into operation, it is important to choose quality over quantity.
• We have channeled our energy into the resilience of the energy system from the point of view of batteries, from the point of view of availability and from the point of view of how these batteries are operated.
• We have developed a strategic partnership with an American and a Dutch company to develop the next generation of 1500V battery control and balancing platforms that allow continuous use of storage systems, that allow the integration of these systems into an aggregated system from multiple locations, and that are not conditioned by the temperatures at which they are found when a system requirement arises.
• When we implement a new technology, the first barrier is the legislative part that must allow the use of that technology.
