Corneliu Bodea, Adrem: “We have not invested enough in the transport and distribution infrastructure in Romania. We can no longer afford to make mistakes”

“Besides some frustrations, I think we have a lot of reasons to be optimistic about the energy sector in Romania. The artificial intelligence revolution is here and I think almost everyone is currently using an AI assistant. This generates a need for data processing that is huge and requires an enormous amount of energy. For example, a simple picture generated with AI consumes 0.2 kWh.

The main bottleneck of AI development is resource consumption. This technology will bring about an energy revolution, and the main challenge is energy consumption,” Corneliu Bodea, CEO Adrem said at Energy CEO Forum organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.

Key statements:

• There is a list of 18 countries to which American companies have the right to export AI chips, and Romania was not on this list. The Trump administration wants to make new legislation, and Romania must definitely be on that list.
• Sooner or later AI will conquer the whole world and data centers will have to be dispersed all over the world to cope with energy consumption.
• Our company is already implementing a policy of using artificial intelligence, and many companies in the industry will have a part of their business based on artificial intelligence and will need data centers, energy and will need us more and more. We have reasons to be optimistic and to collaborate.

• Global consumption today is 25,000 TWh, and estimates for 2050 show that consumption will reach over 60,000 TWh per year. Think of the production park that serves this consumption of 25,000 TWh per year today and how much we will have to build in the next 25 years, which will be very difficult. We will have a lot of work and we can no longer afford to make mistakes.
