    ANRE signs MoU with the Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency for cooperation on energy market regulation

    Published on

    The National Energy Regulatory Authority of Romania (ANRE) and the Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA) signed today a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) marking the beginning of an in-depth bilateral cooperation in the field of energy market regulation.

    This agreement strengthens the strategic partnership started in 2009 between Romania and Azerbaijan and continued through the Green Energy Corridor Agreement signed in Bucharest in 2022, together with Georgia and Hungary.

    The objectives of the Memorandum include:

    • exchange of good practices on the regulation of energy markets, with a focus on electricity, natural gas, green hydrogen and energy infrastructure;
    • organizing bilateral visits, training sessions for experts and joint participation in events;
    • promoting a cooperation framework for the exchange of data, studies and information of common interest.

    “This Memorandum is more than a symbolic document – it is a platform for concrete action . Together with AERA, we are committed to building a modern, open and predictable regulatory framework that supports the integration of regional markets and encourages investments in green energy,” said George Niculescu, President of ANRE.

    Both Romania and Azerbaijan are central pillars in the development of the Green Energy Corridor, which connects the Caspian Sea region to Europe. This partnership will support the harmonization of regulations for cross-border projects, the promotion of green hydrogen, and the increase of investor confidence through stability and transparency.
