Viorel Tudose, Getica 95: “Before any energy strategy, we must have a law that provides predictability for 20-25 years”

“Romania’s first energy strategy was made 70 years ago. We didn’t have human capital then and we don’t have it now. Those who made the strategy back then trained the energy engineers who built the dams we see today.

We have the largest electricity producer in Eastern Europe thanks to that energy strategy of 70 years ago. From my point of view, the future is dark. Because we don’t have legislation,” Viorel Tudose, CEO Getica 95 said at the Energy CEO Forum organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.

“We keep lying to ourselves that we are doing good, but for whom? For the end consumer? We are just deceiving consumers that it is good for them.

The consumer wants a lower price. We all want to be clean, we want to breathe clean air, but what are the costs? How do we define costs?

Energy suppliers are going through some very difficult times. Everyone is asking us for green energy. We want green energy, but the energy we deliver to consumers bears the label of the National Energy System, not the label of Getica 95 or another supplier.

Before any energy strategy, we must have a law that provides predictability for 20-25 years. Only then can we get to work and make investments in the energy sector. The strategy is built with laws and with respect.”

Getica 95, one of the largest electricity suppliers in Romania, reached 1.1 billion RON in turnover in 2023, occupying seventh place in the local market.

The plans for the year 2024 of the electricity supplier owned by the businessman Viorel Tudose aim at the management of production capacities, but also the storage of electricity.
