Hidroelectrica is launching a new tender for the Vidraru hydropower plant refurbishment

    Published on

Hidroelectrica relaunched the tender for the re-engineering of the Vidraru hydropower plant, through the electronic public procurement system (SEAP). The estimated contract value for this project is 188 million euros.

The “Vidraru Hydroelectric Power Plant Refurbishment” project aims to carry out a complex set of works, including the installation of mechanical and electrical equipment, the integration of modernized installations, construction works for the replacement/rehabilitation of existing equipment, the consolidation of hydrotechnical constructions, such as the dam, the pressure derivation, the power plant, the technical block , and building a landfill for waste and reusable materials. The project also includes the implementation of an automatic command-control system to coordinate the operation of equipment and facilities, technical condition assessment services, design and engineering for each technical unit, as well as project management activities to coordinate the entire retrofitting process.

The resumption of the tender for the modernization of Vidraru starts from solving the problems identified in the procedures carried out in the past. Before relaunching the project, Hidroelectrica specialists had a series of consultations with potential contracting companies to identify both new ideas and the challenges or uncertainties they face, both from a technical and financial point of view. Thus, an extensive market research was carried out with the aim of obtaining a correct estimate of the value of the works in a period characterized by increased volatility, but also to align the contractual clauses with international practice, so as to ensure the premises for a participation as wide as possible for both Romanian and international contractors.

“We know that it is an extremely complex project, with multiple variables and risks, but it is of utmost importance and priority both for Hidroelectrica and for the national energy system. We trust that these changes, which the new team that forms the directorate will undertake, will lead to the successful award of the contract and the effective completion of the works” – said Karoly Borbely, CEO of Hidroelectrica.

Hidroelectrica is the largest producer of green energy in Romania and provides essential technological services for the National Energy System. The company operates 187 plants with a hydropower capacity of 6.3 GW and – in addition, owns a wind farm in Crucea with an installed capacity of 108 MW.
