Carrefour Group announces the appointment of Gilles Ballot as Chief Executive Officer of Carrefour Romania starting from February 12, 2024. Gilles Ballot will report directly to Laurent Vallée, General Secretary of Carrefour Group and Executive Director of Northern Europe.

“I would like to extend my appreciation to Julien for his dedication over the past 3 years, during which he accelerated Carrefour’s ambitions in localization and digitization, while generating added value for customers. The interim period, although brief, allowed me to discover a small part of what Romania has to offer. I have full confidence in the development of Carrefour Romania under Gilles’ leadership and alongside a high-performing team,” stated Laurent Vallée, General Secretary of Carrefour Group and Executive Director of Northern Europe.

After starting his career with Danone in Romania, then with Johnson & Johnson and BCG, Gilles Ballot joined Carrefour Group in 2009 as Pricing Director and, later on, as Group Merchandise Strategic Projects Director. Then, he was appointed Carrefour Poland Regional Director, and Hypermarkets Director. In 2017, he joined Carrefour Belgium as Merchandise  & Supply Chain Director, then in 2021, Carrefour Italy as Merchandise, Marketing and E-commerce Director. Since October 2022, Gilles has held the position of Merchandise Director France.

“It is an honor and a pleasure to return to Romania, the country that has shaped key professional directions for me. Alongside my new team, I will continue Carrefour Romania’s commitment, established for over two decades, to provide customers with quality products at affordable prices and to support food transition. I am excited to meet the new team and better understand the current market status and most of all to lead this stage of the company as CEO,” declared Gilles Ballot, CEO of Carrefour Romania.

Currently, Carrefour Romania’s omnichannel network comprises nearly 450 stores across the country (hypermarkets, supermarkets, express, discount) and multiple partners in the e-commerce sector, aiming to meet all the needs of Romanians. Carrefour Romania enjoys strong dynamics both locally and within the Group, supported by the integration of Cora formats, acquired in the fall of 2023.
