    Published on

Romgaz, the largest natural gas producer in Romania and one of the largest producers in Eastern Europe, has joined the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0), UNEP’s flagship reporting and mitigation programme.

“We are glad to welcome Romgaz as part of our initiative, which allows member companies to target strategic mitigation of methane emissions,” said Giulia Ferrini, OGMP 2.0 Programme Manager. “We look forward to Romgaz’ contribution as OGMP 2.0 is more than a rigorous reporting framework: it is a unique platform for collective action and peer learning among our members, who jointly develop new industry norms on methane management.”

Răzvan Popescu, Romgaz CEO: ”Joining OGMP 2.0 is for Romgaz a natural consequence of our strategy to reduce methane emissions company-wide, with a real and conscious perspective on the company’s responsibility to actively and consistently contribute to climate change mitigation in Europe and worldwide. OGMP 2.0 facilitates collective, innovative actions to reduce methane emissions by implementing best available practices and technologies, making improved environmental performance an ambitious, yet tangible goal.”

With Romgaz on board, OGMP 2.0’s coverage of the European upstream sector jumps to nearly 75 percent.
