Energy Minister Virgil Popescu: “We requested that Romania be admitted as a member of the Global Offshore Wind Alliance”

    Published on

“On the occasion of the opening ceremony of the 13th session of the Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), we requested that our country be admitted as a member of the Global Offshore Wind Alliance (GOWA ), initiated at COP27, which took place in 2022 in Egypt. We want to take full advantage of all opportunities. The alliance, initiated by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Denmark and the Global Wind Energy Council, will bring together governments, the private sector, international organizations, and other stakeholders to accelerate the deployment of offshore wind energy,” said Energy Minister Virgil Popescu.

“We want to work with the rest of the Member States to boost national, regional, and global ambitions and remove barriers to the deployment of offshore wind in new and existing markets. Offshore wind can be deployed on a large scale, in short timescales and at competitive costs – and is a fast and viable way to close the growing gap between renewable energy targets and current deployment rates.

Because the messages conveyed in the speeches boil down to one important idea: every state must act to increase the production and consumption of renewable energy, for a sustainable future. Also, Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber – Special Representative for Climate Change – the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technologies of the United Arab Emirates, who was appointed the president of #COP28, conveyed that the summit will be a watershed moment and no sector has as of much potential as renewable energy, that is why IRENA’s mission is very important. Romania is an IRENA member state and we are making investments to produce more green energy.”
