The Department for Sustainable Development of the Government of Romania, in collaboration with the Government of Italy, the Government of Luxembourg and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) today organized a high-level conference on “Better Reconstruction: Measuring and Increasing Policy Coherence for the effective realization of the SDGs by 2030”, at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) for Sustainable Development taking place in New York.

“We are very close to the middle of the implementation period of the 2030 Agenda. Where do we stand now? We need a correct evaluation of the data through different monitoring mechanisms and their structuring at national, regional, and global level. The Department for Sustainable Development launches today and internationally the National Action Plan for the implementation of the National Sustainable Development Strategy. We are honored to organize together with the government of Italy, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the representatives of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development this successful conference that strengthens Romania’s position as a regional hub for sustainable development. It is in our power to produce that change of mindset that we need to improve the results of the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. From an institutional point of view, we can measure correctly and find ways to act, but the effort involved in this transition requires the involvement of society as a whole,” said State Councilor László Borbély, coordinator of the Department for Sustainable Development.

“Romania presented the National Action Plan for the Sustainable Development Strategy aimed at implementing the 2030 Agenda at the UN summit in New York.

I am convinced that we can only succeed if we are all aware of the need for joint action. We need to use integrated solutions to achieve the goals of sustainable development, and the environmental protection dimension of the 2030 Agenda is extremely important. We need to build on successful models that reduce plastic pollution, preserve biodiversity, and mitigate climate change,” said Barna Tánczos, Romania’s environment minister.
