Distribution operator Delgaz Grid has completed the modernisation of the Vicov 110/20 kV substation in Suceava County, following an investment of 25.48 million RON (approximately 4.7 million euros). Of the total amount, 2.2 million euros came from European funds, with the remainder financed from the company’s own resources.
The modernised substation will improve electricity distribution services for consumers in the area by reducing the risk of power supply interruptions and enhancing the quality of electricity delivered. Approximately 18,000 customers will benefit from the investment in the localities of Vicovu de Sus, Vicovu de Jos, Rădăuți, Brodina, Putna, Straja, Gălănești, Voitinel, Bilca, Ulma, Izvoarele Sucevei, Moldova Sulița, Moldovița, Vatra Moldoviței, Frumosu and parts of Frătăuții Noi.
The main works involved replacing high- and medium-voltage equipment and integrating the new equipment into the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system, which enables remote monitoring and control of installations.
The 17-kilometre Vicov–Rădăuți 110 kV power line was also modernised, and new connections were established between the Vicov, Rădăuți and Egger substations to improve the security and reliability of electricity supply.
At the same time, the upgraded substation provides safer and more stable conditions for feeding electricity into the grid from 20 renewable energy producers, including hydropower and photovoltaic installations. The investment also contributes to reducing the distribution network’s own technological consumption and improving the performance indicators of the electricity distribution service.
The company is currently implementing 16 other projects supported by European funding, with a combined value of 530 million euros, including 375 million euros in European funds. The projects cover the installation of smart meters, the modernisation and construction of transformer substations, and the upgrading of electricity networks across all voltage levels.
