AHK Romania: “We urgently need stable political framework conditions”

The political crisis that has been going on for several weeks and the current difficult health situation are creating increasingly difficult conditions for the Romanian business environment and are leading to a further loss of confidence in the private sector, including the lack of prospects for improvement.

The health situation in the country is dramatic, and the direct impact on the economy is clearly visible and continues to worsen. Today, on average, almost 500 people lose their lives every day. It is incomprehensible how political disputes can be fought at this time instead of reaching a political consensus. Moreover, political decision-makers are called upon to provide secure and stable framework conditions, to find concrete solutions to the current crisis and to take responsibility.

Given the challenges, but also the global and regional opportunities, Romania could be one of the winners, especially in the context of funding to come from the EU, if the necessary stability is ensured, a clear direction and if concrete solutions are implemented. Unfortunately, the representatives of the German business environment now have the impression that the exact opposite is happening, and the measures necessary to break the deadlock are non-existent.

In this context, we call on all policy makers to find a way out of the current situation as soon as possible. It is about working together constructively to form a stable government, able to act, get the country back on track and address the immense challenges. By implementing the reform agenda and the projects supported by EU funds, Romania benefits from real opportunities to create the foundations for a positive and sustainable development of the country. This opportunity must not be jeopardized by anyone or anything.
