Niculae Havrilet: “Hydrogen is one of the renewable energy sources with the greatest potential for Romania”

    Published on

“We are moving towards clean energy and there are four important ways that Romania should start: increasing the production of electricity from renewable resources, hydrogen storage, decarbonization of industry, the role of new regulations and certifications from authorities and institutions specialized in approval of new technologies. It is also very important for Romania to be among the countries that use projects of common interest for hydrogen, the so-called “inter-country project” for hydrogen production, one of the strategic projects of the European Union,” energy expert Niculae Havrilet said during a conference organized by CNR-CME and Siemens Energy.

“The imperatives established in the Green Deal project demonstrate that a large part of the solutions presented in the energy strategy prepared by the Ministry of Energy in 2017-2018, must be reconsidered, and the regulatory framework must be modified. Today we are talking not only about new technologies for the production of electricity, but also about new technologies used in the transmission and distribution networks of electricity and natural gas. Clean energy production means primarily hydrogen, but also biomethane and biogas, so we need to find solutions for injecting biomethane and methanol where networks are not prepared for the use of hydrogen, to analyse the storage of hydrogen in salt mines. Among the opportunities that our country provides us, we can say that hydrogen is one of the renewable energy sources with the greatest potential. Issuing a national hydrogen strategy would be welcome.”
