Renewable energy producer R.Power is now progressing with its second utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in Romania as it continues to build its presence as an energy storage leader in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).
Studina BESS is a 100 MW / 200 MWh project in Olt County. Like nearby project, Scornicesti (127MW / 254 MWh) – which is now nearing completion – Studina is a standalone system that will add significant storage capacity to the Romanian network, supporting grid stability and energy security.
Construction is now expected to begin in Q4 this year, ahead of an expected connection date in Q3 2027.
The project sits within a wider CEE pipeline that includes 0.9GW / 3GWh of assets in operation and under construction, alongside 0.7 GW / 2.8 GWh of commercialised, ready-to-build projects.
“Having advanced our flagship Romanian BESS, Scorniçesti, through financing, commercialisation and construction, we are now pleased to set the wheels in motion for Studina, which will play an equally important role in supporting the regional energy transition,” said Florin Federenciuc, R.Power Country Head for Romania. “Romania is a pace setter for grid scale storage adoption, not just in CEE but across Europe as a whole, and we are proud to be contributing to that momentum.”
