Ker Toki Power Romania is pursuing a rapid expansion of renewable generation and battery storage, with the company targeting a model of “green baseload” capable of delivering renewable electricity around the clock, Aurel Mindrican, General Manager of Ker Toki Power Romania, said at the Green Energy Conference, organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.
“We are a young company. We started operations at the beginning of 2026 from zero. At this point, we have reached 440 MW installed. Our strategy is based on rapid growth, and this is just the beginning,” Mindrican said.
“This is only a small part of what we are going to do in this country,” he added.
Mindrican said the company is drawing on both the experience of its local team and the wider regional expertise of the Renalfa Solarpro and Ker Toki Holding groups.
“Beyond the human experience we have, every specialist on my team has worked in the renewable energy sector for between four and 30 years. We also have the experience of the Renalfa Solarpro group and Ker Toki Holding in the region, particularly in Bulgaria,” he said.
Battery storage is expected to become a major component of the company’s Romanian expansion strategy.
“We see the dynamics at the beginning for us. We believe this is only the beginning of battery development, because next year alone we will install a 600 MWh battery, and there will be more to follow,” Mindrican said.
The company’s strategy is based on combining renewable generation with both co-located and standalone battery storage. “Our strategy is based precisely on renewable assets, backed by batteries and standalone batteries, in order to deliver our vision of green baseload,” Mindrican said.
According to Mindrican, combining renewable generation with storage could allow renewable energy to provide a more consistent supply throughout the day.
“In the end, we will be able to achieve 24/7 production solely from renewable energy, by producing when we have sun and wind, storing the energy that is not needed in the middle of the day or when there is a lot of wind,” he said. “Our strategy is based on renewables and batteries,” Mindrican added.
Mindrican also explained the role of energy traders in the wholesale electricity market, emphasizing their function in providing liquidity and managing market risks.
“An energy trader is precisely a company that only buys and sells on the wholesale market, creating liquidity and taking on the risks,” he said.
“A trader never has the objective of putting a commercial margin of 20%, 40% or 50%. A trader operates on a margin of a maximum of 3% or 5%, if they are lucky,” Mindrican added.
He said traders need to remain continuously active on both sides of the market to facilitate transactions between market participants.
“The trader has to constantly buy and sell, create liquidity, and give everyone in the market the opportunity to have energy that they can sell or buy,” Mindrican said.
