HORNBACH to invest 70 million euros to open two new stores in Romania

    Published on

HORNBACH Romania, one of the country’s leading retailers of building materials and gardening products, plans to invest approximately 70 million eurosin two new stores in Cluj-Napoca and Craiova. Construction of the company’s second location in Cluj-Napoca has already started, while in Craiova, HORNBACH has obtained the necessary building permit for its first store in the Oltenia region.

According to the company, each of the two projects represents an investment of approximately 35 million euros. The new Cluj-Napoca store is scheduled to open in autumn 2027, while construction in Craiova is expected to begin in early 2027, with the store’s opening planned for spring 2028.

“We are investing with a long-term perspective and select each new location based on the potential of the region and the need to be as close as possible to our customers. We have been present in Transylvania for many years, and the region’s economic development and strong demand have convinced us to open a second store in Cluj-Napoca. Oltenia has also been part of our expansion plans for a long time, and finding the right location in Craiova now allows us to enter this region. These two investments demonstrate our confidence in the potential of the Romanian market and in our long-term development here,” said Radu Oniga, General Manager of HORNBACH Romania.

The new HORNBACH store in Cluj-Napoca will be developed as part of the Urbano Shopping & Living retail project and will become the retailer’s second location in the city. The investment, estimated at approximately 35 million euros, includes the land, construction and fit-out works required for the new store.

The project will be developed on a total land area of approximately 49,500 square metres. The store will have a sales area of around 20,100 square metres, including more than 8,900 square metres dedicated to building materials and home improvement products, approximately 5,000 square metres for the garden section, and around 6,200 square metres allocated to the Drive-In area.

In Craiova, HORNBACH has obtained the building permit for its first store in the Oltenia region. The new location will be built at the intersection of Decebal Boulevard and Caracal Street.

The company estimates the investment in the Craiova project at approximately 35 million euros as well. The future store will have a sales area of more than 17,000 square metres and will be developed according to HORNBACH’s latest retail concept.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2027, with the store scheduled to open in spring 2028.

The two projects will further expand HORNBACH’s presence in Romania and underline the retailer’s plans for continued long-term growth in the local market.
